How do you get the pee smell out of a cast?

The questions of the day --- So basically I have given up because he smells like pee - I am burning LOTS of candles and sponge bathing him as much as humanly possibly. It is definitely the cast that smells YUCK

We tried some OXY clean on the parts around the diaper and tried to dry it with the hair dryer on low like they told us to do, Unfortunately my son is terrified of the hair dryer - go figure.

So 12 days to go and my house will continue to smell like pee until that cast is a thing of the past.

I found your blog through a spica cast search, we're currently in one also at our house. Not as young as your guy but with a 4 1/2 y.o. For the smell we put our daughter on her stomach and took off the old "petals" and washed it gently with warm water and used some baking soda on the parts right around the opening and let her relax there while watching a movie for a while to let things dry for about an hour using a cool blow dryer to help with drying things out. The baking soda seemed to help with the smell. Then we retaped with white duct tape- it's thicker than standard hospital tape hopefully to cover up any lingering smell and put in fresh pads. Hope this helps!
